Infinity Board of Directors

Anita Mitchell, President

 Anita R. Mitchell is a Detroit native who is deeply rooted in the community she proudly serves. She was educated in the Detroit Public Schools system and graduated from Pershing High School in 1990. Anita went on to attend Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

Her professional career began supporting youth in foster care, providing case management services to help guide and advocate for vulnerable populations. In 1997, she joined the State of Michigan, working in Protective Services to further her commitment to child welfare and family support.

After several years, Anita spent four years on the East Coast working as a nanny, gaining additional experience in child development and family dynamics. Upon returning to Michigan, she transitioned into the field of Behavioral Health, where she has dedicated the past 18 years of her career.

In 2016, Anita earned her Master’s degree in Management, allowing her to combine her clinical expertise with strong leadership and administrative skills. She currently serves as an executive in behavioral health for one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the state of Michigan, where she focuses on delivering impactful services and leading with compassion and accountability.

Anita’s journey into board service came through an opportunity to serve with a strict discipline academy, bringing her professional experience full circle and reinforcing her passion for supporting youth development and educational success.

She remains committed to advocating for students, supporting educators, and strengthening the connection between schools and the communities they serve.

Bomani Gray, Vice President

G. Bomani Gray attended Central Michigan University for Public Health and trained as a Doula in 2020, bringing specialized expertise in family support services and maternal-child health. He currently serves as Project Director for the Michigan Action Plan for Father Involvement (MAP-FI) and chairs the Metro Detroit Fatherhood Policy Initiative Group, championing fatherhood and family engagement on a statewide scale. Bomani also volunteers with Michigan Family Voices, supporting the Michigan Dads Voice initiative for fathers of children with disabilities. He is a published author, contributing the chapter "I'm Good, I Think I Got This: One Father's Journey from Adolescence to Black Fatherhood" to Honoring Voices Within Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Settings, which explores the intersection of fatherhood and infant mental health. 

Diane Gai, Treasurer

I have been a proud board member for four years.  Family is very important to me.  I enjoy spending time with immediate and extended family.  My parents were born in Italy and my brothers and I are first generation.  I love to travel and especially enjoy traveling to Italy as I have family members that continue to reside there.  I have been a social worker for 31 years and currently I work in an Elementary School, prior to working in a school I have worked in leadership roles in behavioral health and child welfare. I am a strong advocate for children and families.

Mitzi Mitsunaga, Member-at-Large

  

Mitzi Mitsunaga is a lifelong advocate for youth development and community service, with a career spanning over six decades dedicated to supporting and empowering young people. Beginning her work in 1960, Her career spans roles in recreation, nonprofit organizations, and residential care for emotionally impaired teens.

She built a distinguished career with the Wayne County 3rd District Circuit Court, Juvenile and Family Division, serving as a Court Executive, Casework Supervisor, and Probation Officer. 

Mitzi has remained deeply engaged in her community, serving on school boards, church boards, and professional associations, and coaching girls’ softball and basketball. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Business with a focus on Human Resources. In 2016, she was ordained as a minister, continuing her lifelong commitment to service, mentorship, and leadership.

Dr. Umeika Stephens, Member-at-Large

Dr. Umeika Stephens, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, is a dual-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience advancing mental health care for underserved populations. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Graduate Specialty Coordinator at Wayne State University, leading the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program and preparing future providers. Her work focuses on integrated behavioral health, workforce development, and evidence-based interventions such as SBIRT and Mental Health First Aid. Dr. Stephens brings expertise in trauma-informed care and is committed to ensuring justice-involved youth receive equitable, supportive, and transformative educational opportunities.
